Ball Corporation and Protect Our Rivers Announce Plans for National Cleanup Day

Did you know, when litter enters the South Platte River, it takes approximately three weeks to reach the Gulf of Mexico? While the South Platte River has received love in recent years, the river’s chief tributaries have been relatively forgotten during this time, along with the TONS of litter they carry with them into the South Platte River.

On Saturday, September 16th, Ball Corporation, Protect Our Rivers, and over 100 volunteers will celebrate National Cleanup Day with a river cleanup on Clear Creek, one of the five chief tributaries of the South Platte River. Ball Corporation and Protect Our Rivers invite the community to come out to clean up a heavily polluted stretch of Clear Creek and celebrate afterward with a cold beer and giveaways.

The upcoming occasion will signify the fourth collaboration between Ball Corporation and Protect Our Rivers for a cleanup effort within the last two years.

Through our partnership with Protect Our Rivers, we have rallied hundreds of volunteers and removed thousands of pounds of trash from rivers and streams,” says Lauren Roadman, Community Relations Specialist at Ball Corporation.. “It is truly inspiring to witness individuals actively taking part in initiatives that make an immediate impact on Colorado’s largest urban watershed and see how much fun they have doing it.”

Sarah Nelson, Executive Director of Protect Our Rivers, adds “Our cleanup events with Ball have been a blast. The amount of trash we've collected has been mind-blowing, but what matters most is that everyone has an amazing time and gets to experience making an immediate and tangible impact. To add some excitement, Ball likes to give away cool prizes like signed Nuggets jerseys to those who gather the most trash or discover the weirdest item. We can’t wait for National Cleanup Day!”

National Cleanup Day is open to the public and free to join. Visit nationalcleanupday2023.splashthat.com to register or learn more.
